KICKOFF TO SUMMER: NASCAR CANADIAN TIRE SERIES WEEKEND

May 31, 2010

By: John Houghton

This weekend is a true kickoff to summer and has a full lineup of racing to be enjoyed at Canada’s Finest Short Track. The weekend’s card features many of Delaware Speedway’s NASCAR Whelen All-American Series weekly classes, the Transmission Direct Enduro, a King of the Hill Spectator’s Race, and the season opener for the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series.

The overnight parking area officially opens on Wednesday evening, which is also the first night of racing of the week. The young drivers of the Krown Junior Racing League take to the track for their second night of competition this season. Entry is just $5 with kids 12 and under free. Racing gets underway just after 6:30 pm.

Friday, June 4 has a full racing card starting at 8:00 pm. The lineup features the NASCAR Late Models and Demar Aggregate Trucks representing the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series with the special bonus of the Transmission Direct Enduro Challenge. The Enduro Challenge is a special event which places drivers from the entry-level Enduro series into a “Friday Night Format” of heat races and a feature race. Following those events will be a classic crowd favorite: a King of the Hill Spectators race in which spectators can drive their street vehicles around the track in one-on-one elimination drag races.

Saturday, June 5 will be the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series event with the Delaware Super Stocks running a race earlier in the day at 6:00 pm and the Nascar Canadian Tire Series Delaware 200 getting underway at 8:00 pm. While those are the start times for the feature races, there is plenty going on around the area at the facility on Saturday:

- Fans may also wish to take in another special event near the speedway this weekend, before arriving at the track in the afternoon. Nearby the speedway is the 2010 Fleetwood Country Cruize In, the largest one-day autoshow in Canada. Fans can find more information here: http://www.fleetwoodcountrycruizein.com/

- The spectator gates at the track will be opening at 1:00 pm with the beginning of practice for the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series.

- Throughout the facility on Saturday are a many vendor and special displays.

- Super Stock time trials are at 4:30 pm. Time Trials for the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series are held at 5:15 pm.

The advanced discounted tickets for the weekend will close at midnight on Wednesday, June 2nd. Tickets will continue to be available through the speedway website at full price leading up to the event. Adult passes for the Saturday NASCAR Canadian Tire Series Race are currently discounted to $32 and will return to full price of $40 when the advanced window closes. It is also worth noting that a new block of seating recently became available in the reserved seating section.

The best deal of the weekend is the full weekend pass. Weekend passes for adults are currently available for $42 for adults, a savings of $14 off the full gate price. Similar discounts apply to senior and student tickets.

Families should take note, children 12 & under are free to all events this weekend.

A reminder regarding the overnight parking area: unserviced sites are available on a first come first served basis behind the back straightaway. Campers must register their site when they arrive for the entire weekend for $20. The standard site size is 20' X 47' although some larger sites will be made available for RVs. Pre-reservations are not available; the only way to secure your site is to register upon arrival with speedway staff. Groups of campers wishing to camp together should ensure that the first of their group to arrive is able to register their additional sites.

Do not miss out on the best racing action around this weekend at Delaware Speedway!
